“The transition process should be robust, democratic, tolerant and transparent.” Mehari Taddele
Mekelle፡27 February 2023(Tigray Herald)
Tigray is currently in a dilemma between hope and despair, between opportunities and the post-war crisis. It requires sincerity, total responsibility, and flexibility. Future generations will also look back on the difficult situation and reflect on it tomorrow.
The biggest lesson that the people of Tigray must learn is that no party, the Ethiopian federal system, the Pan-African process, or any international body can save them from the horrific war and death of the past two years. So this situation is a wake up call for every Tigrayan.
The pillar of legal, acceptable and efficient governance is ensured by public participation in politics through direct and freely elected representatives.
Such public participation includes the level of peoples create through public discussion and debate with each other and with their representatives.
The participation is valid only if it guarantees freedom of expression, assembly and association. Freedom of expression and information, assembly and association are key activities of the right to public participation.
Tigray authorities are expected to respect these rights.
Accordingly, I personally appeal to the forces and political parties of Tigray to contribute to the building of a culture of democracy, ensure transparency and accountability of democratic governance, ensure human rights and monitor human rights violations.
TPLF is playing its dirty games to stay in power. Every Tigrayan should stand against any undemocratic processes. Tigray needs all-inclusive dialogue that leads to a democratic transitional government.
