Displacing thousands more Tigrayans has to stop and return of IDPs has to begin!

Renewed displacement of thousands of Tigrayans in recent months, further exacerbating the existing humanitarian crisis. This surge in displacement directly contradicts the promise of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) return outlined in the Pretoria Agreement, causing immense suffering for innocent civilians who already face systematic looting and harassment.

The international community, including Canada, the European Union, Japan, Britain, and the United States, has rightly called for the demobilization of ex-combatants in Ethiopia as a crucial step towards achieving peace. However, it is imperative to emphasize that other critical aspects of the agreement, such as the safe return of IDPs and refugees and the withdrawal of external forces, must also be addressed with urgency. These commitments are essential to alleviate the immense suffering endured by the Tigrayan population.

Therefore, we urge the aforementioned countries and the European Union to exert pressure on the Ethiopian government to uphold its commitments outlined in the Pretoria Agreement. We further reiterate our calls for an immediate end to the displacement of innocent Tigrayans and the creation of a conducive environment for sustainable peace and stability in the region.
