CSC Condemns Unlawful Referendum Proposal for Dire Dawa and Moyale, Somali Region
The Congress for Somali Cause (CSC) expresses deep alarm over the recent, unlawful proposal by
the Somali Regional State President to hold a referendum on the disputed territories of Dire Dawa
and Moyale. This unilateral move, as outlined in a leaked letter, disregards the sovereignty, rights,
and interests of the Somali people and risks destabilizing the region.
The CSC asserts that the President lacks the authority to initiate such a divisive action, especially
given the current political climate and the potential for heightened tensions. We view this proposal
as a politically motivated attempt to consolidate power and undermine the integrity of the Somali
region. It represents a clear departure from the principles of democratic governance and poses a
direct threat to the peaceful coexistence of the Somali and Oromo communities.
The CSC calls on the international community to closely monitor this situation and urges all parties
involved to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy. We also encourage the Somali people to remain
united and vigilant in defending their rights and territorial integrity.
We call upon peace-loving Oromos, other Ethiopians, and the international community to stand
with the Somali people and condemn this unjust proposal. Together, we can prevent further division
and work toward a peaceful and prosperous future for the region.
