Condemning the Heinous Attempt on the Life of Mr. Solomon Measho, Central Tigray Zone Administrator

On Sunday, Tigray was shaken by a cowardly act of violence as Mr. Solomon Measho, the Administrator of the Central Tigray Zone, survived an attempted assassination while traveling to the regional capital. This egregious attack is not just a targeted assault on an individual but an affront to Tigray’s aspirations for justice, political reform, and democratic transformation in the aftermath of genocide.

A Symbol of Progress and Change
Mr. Solomon Measho represents a rising generation of Tigrayan leaders committed to ushering in a new era of political reform, transparency, and accountability. His leadership challenges the regressive and authoritarian traditions that have hampered Tigray’s development for decades. This assassination attempt underscores the desperation of those clinging to outdated ideologies and oppressive practices.

This act of terror is a direct attempt to derail Tigray’s progress and threatens the very foundation of its recovery and renewal. Such violence cannot and will not be tolerated.

A Call for Justice
We unequivocally condemn this heinous act and demand an independent, impartial investigation to identify and hold accountable those responsible. The Tigray Interim Government must act decisively to protect reformist voices and ensure that acts of political violence are met with swift and transparent justice. The path to healing and renewal in Tigray must be safeguarded against such threats.

Addressing Rogue Elements Within the TDF
Equally alarming is the reported interference of certain rogue elements within the leadership of the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF). These individuals, acting with political bias, undermine the institution tasked with safeguarding the Tigrayan people. Their alleged involvement in terrorizing civilians, suppressing youth, and engaging in illegal activities such as gold mining is a betrayal of the very principles the TDF is meant to uphold.

We call for an immediate and thorough investigation into these allegations. The Tigray Interim Government must dismantle networks of corruption and authoritarianism within its security apparatus to restore public trust and prioritize the collective well-being of the Tigrayan people.

Uniting for Justice and Democracy
The attempt on Mr. Solomon Measho’s life and the reported abuses against Tigrayan youth demand a unified response. We urge all Tigrayan civic organizations, irrespective of political affiliation, to join in condemning these acts. These incidents are not merely attacks on individuals but on the principles of justice, democracy, and human rights.

A Crossroads for Tigray
Post-genocide Tigray stands at a critical juncture. Its future must be defined by democracy, inclusion, and justice—not violence, intimidation, or repression. The attempt on Mr. Solomon Measho’s life and the abuses in Central Tigray highlight the urgent need for transformative leadership and systemic accountability.

We call on the Tigray Interim Government and its security apparatus to:

Ensure Accountability: Conduct immediate investigations into the assassination attempt and reported abuses.
Protect Public Safety: Guarantee the security of public officials and civilians alike.
Eradicate Corruption: Address criminal networks and ensure the military serves the people’s interests.
An International Appeal for Justice
We appeal to international human rights organizations to condemn this attempted assassination and support efforts to hold the perpetrators accountable. Tigray’s journey toward recovery and justice requires global solidarity and vigilance.

Assassination Reflects Weakness, Not Strength
Assassination is the weapon of the defeated—an admission of an inability to engage in dialogue, present new ideas, or inspire change. It reflects the desperation of those who fear progress and seek to silence opposition through cowardly violence.

Standing for Justice, Reform, and Unity
As advocates for human rights and justice, we reaffirm our commitment to:

Justice: Ensuring accountability for all acts of violence and abuses.
Reform: Supporting political transformation to end authoritarian practices.
Unity: Encouraging all Tigrayans to stand together in defense of democracy and human rights.
This is not just a call to action—it is a declaration of resolve. We will not allow the sacrifices of Tigray’s people or the dreams of its future generations to be undermined by those clinging to oppressive systems. Together, we will build a just, democratic, and peaceful Tigray.
