Press Release from Salsay Weyane Tigray
Tigray remains tragically engulfed in a profound crisis stemming from the TPLF’s internal political decay, characterized by rampant corruption and destructive infighting. This internal strife is further exacerbated by the Ethiopian government’s persistent failure to honor the commitments outlined in the Pretoria Agreement.
In a deeply concerning development, senior leaders within the Tigrayan military have brazenly declared their support for a specific TPLF faction, attempting to seize power through force. Salsay Weyane Tigray unequivocally condemns this act of unlawful power-grabbing. Such a move directly undermines the urgent needs of the Tigrayan people: peace, an inclusive civilian administration, the restoration of the pre-war administrative status quo, and the safe return of internally displaced persons and refugees.
The people of Tigray yearn for lasting peace. As we have consistently emphasized, maintaining peace is paramount to addressing the dire humanitarian needs of the Tigrayan population, whose lives hang in the balance.
Salsay Weyane Tigray, as a political party, is committed to establishing a peaceful, multiparty democracy in Tigray. We will resolutely oppose any actions by anti-peace elements that threaten to derail this objective, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our peace-loving people. We trust that the international community will stand with us in safeguarding peace and stability in Tigray.
Furthermore, we reiterate that a sustainable solution hinges on the re-establishment of an all-inclusive Tigray Interim Regional Administration (TIRA) that does not engulf itself in internal power struggles within a political party.
