Tigray’s post-war trauma: A struggle for healing amidst political discord.
By Kassa Seged
Tigray’s political leaders and representatives must prioritize establishing a strong and collaborative relationship with the federal government, particularly amid enduring political disagreements and the severe humanitarian crises that plague the region.
This initiative is essential because neglecting to foster such a partnership risks exacerbating the widespread dissatisfaction among local populations, which could ignite further civil unrest and instability. If left unaddressed, the prevailing sense of discontent poses a significant threat not only to Tigray’s stability but also to its communities’ overall welfare.
By actively promoting unity and collaboration, Tigray’s leaders can more effectively confront the immediate and pressing challenges faced by the region.
Among these are the alarming food shortages that have left many families struggling to feed themselves, the critical lack of access to healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children and older people, and the urgent need for repairing and modernizing infrastructure ravaged by conflict.
Establishing a cooperative relationship would help alleviate these dire issues and cultivate an atmosphere of safety and optimism, ultimately fostering pathways for long-term prosperity for all residents.
In addition, such collaboration would send a strong and positive message to the international community, demonstrating Tigray’s commitment to resolving its internal challenges through constructive dialogue and partnership rather than confrontation.
This shift in approach could facilitate increased international support, bringing vital humanitarian aid and financial assistance crucial for alleviating the ongoing suffering of the people of Tigray. By working hand in hand, Tigray’s leaders and the federal government can address the immediate humanitarian needs—such as food security and healthcare—and lay the foundation for sustainable development, economic stability, and lasting peace in the region.
This collaborative strategy transcends mere political necessity; it emerges as a moral imperative to ensure the well-being and future of Tigray’s population. Through concerted efforts and a unified vision, Tigray can truly begin to heal, rebuild, and aspire to a brighter future for its people.
