Salsay Weyane Tigray Condemns Escalating Repression and Demands Immediate Action
The people of Tigray are suffering under a relentless barrage of internal and external crises.
Compounding the devastating aftermath of the genocidal war, which has left our population in abject squalor, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and its loyalists have now unleashed a campaign of brutal domestic repression.
An illegal and draconian martial law, imposed by self-proclaimed senior military commanders affiliated with a TPLF faction, continues to terrorize the civilian population. This de facto military rule, implemented without any legal mandate, blatantly violates fundamental human rights and undermines any semblance of stability.
Despite persistent and widespread calls for the immediate revocation of this unlawful decree, and in the face of organized popular protests, the TPLF has doubled down on its characteristic intransigence. Youth protests against these repressive measures have been met with extreme brutality, demonstrating a callous disregard for human life. The systematic dismantling of legitimate government institutions and their replacement with loyalists is further exacerbating tensions and jeopardizing the already fragile peace.
Salsay Weyane Tigray unequivocally condemns this TPLF-led descent into lawlessness. We demand that they immediately reverse their destructive course and cease all repressive activities.
We implore the international community, particularly human rights organizations, to urgently address these pervasive abuses, conduct thorough investigations, and ensure accountability for those responsible. The world must not turn a blind eye to the suffering of the Tigrayan people.
