1.2 Billion Birr Raised for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
Over the past 10 months, 1.2 billion birr has been raised for the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), according to the GERD Coordination Project Office.
Solomon Daniel, the office’s head of Public Diplomacy, Public Relations, and Communications, told Fana Broadcasting Corporate that the target for the current fiscal year is to collect 1.6 billion birr for the dam.
He stated that, in the past 10 months alone, 1.2 billion birr has been raised from the public. Since the project’s launch, over 23 billion birr has been collected in total.
Solomon noted that the dam’s construction is in its final stages, saying, “We are now preparing to complete and inaugurate this project.”
He emphasized that reaching this stage reflects the strong determination of both the government and the people. He highlighted the extensive support received in financing, diplomacy, environmental protection, moral backing, knowledge, and expertise.
He called on the public to continue their support until the dam’s full completion by purchasing bonds and making donations through SMS by sending “A” to 8100.
Additionally, he reminded the diaspora that they can contribute through the online platform ItIsMyDam.com, the Ethio-Direct mobile app, or Tele Birr for convenient donations.
