Tigray Interim Council Warns Against Undermining State Institutions, Urges an immediate Action
The Tigray Regional State Interim Council (TPC) has issued a statement emphasizing the urgent need to protect and strengthen Tigray’s statehood by reinforcing the functionality and independence of regional government institutions.
According to the Council, key institutions are currently being hindered from fulfilling their legal mandates. It raised serious concerns over increasing violations of judicial independence and reports of unlawful activities within the region. The Council also stated that the regional police force is facing interference beyond its legal bounds, preventing it from delivering essential public services effectively.
“This obstruction is undermining the very institutions that are critical to stabilizing and rebuilding Tigray,” the Council warned, stating that continued interference risks deepening the crisis and dismantling the fragile governance structures in place.
The Interim Council has called on the federal government to fulfill its obligations under the Pretoria Agreement, including the urgent return of displaced Tigrayans and the full restoration of Tigray’s constitutional status.
“The path to recovery and justice cannot be achieved without institutional integrity, lawful governance, and respect for the people’s right to self-rule,” the statement concluded.
