Ethiopia upholds diplomatic path in sea access pursuit
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to peaceful diplomacy in securing sea access, stressing its necessity for economic progress and regional integration.
In a press briefing he held with media, MoFA Spokesperson Nebiat Getachew reiterated Ethiopia’s stance on achieving its sea access aspirations through negotiations, ensuring mutual benefits with neighboring countries while advancing national development.
He reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to diplomacy grounded in international principles and constructive engagement.
The spokesperson emphasized that Ethiopia’s economic growth and population size make reliable maritime access essential, reinforcing a legal and diplomatic approach to securing port facilities.
He indicated Ethiopia’s foreign policy is rooted in peaceful resolutions and cooperation, ensuring that access to ports aligns with national development strategies and broader regional stability.
Nebiat also highlighted Ethiopia’s track record of resolving disputes through dialogue, emphasizing that past challenges were addressed through negotiations rather than confrontation. He affirmed that Ethiopia seeks port utilization through peaceful agreements, aligning its policies with international norms and fostering economic partnerships.
“Ethiopia remains committed to diplomacy, ensuring its sea access efforts align with broader economic and regional priorities through peaceful engagement with neighboring nations,” the spokesperson remarked.
