Tigray Is Dying: A Call for Truth, Reform, and Action
By Tekie Hagos
In the shadow of war and trauma, Tigray is not only recovering from destruction it is slowly dying from within. Not just from bullets or bombs, but from the silence, corruption, and fear that continue to dominate its political and civic life. The time for quiet suffering is over. The time for blunt, courageous questions and honest answers is now.
Why Do Corrupt Leaders Still Rule Tigray?
Because fear works. Because people feel they have no alternatives. Because a once-proud political system has been hijacked by opportunists and elites who suppress reform and sideline capable, ethical Tegaru. Meanwhile, those with vision, talent, and integrity are either disillusioned, dismissed, or forced into exile.
Why Is There No National Dialogue Among Tegaru?
The wounds are deep. Trust is broken. Egos and divisions have replaced collective purpose. Trauma and pride have blinded many to the need for inclusive, honest conversation. What we need is a neutral, respected platform not controlled by parties or power brokers to convene all voices. From youth to elders, women to diaspora, fighters to peacemakers.
Why Can’t We Say NO to Corruption?
Because saying no requires courage and consequences. But the silence is killing us. The young are watching, and they will inherit the decay if we don’t stop it. It’s time to stand for ethics over loyalty, for competence over connections, and for leaders who serve the people not themselves.
Why Is the Diaspora Misled?
Because narratives are controlled. Because propaganda masquerades as news. The diaspora is often split between emotional allegiance and strategic impact. It’s time for Tegaru abroad to organize around truth, not noise; around values, not vanity. We need media that informs, not inflames. We need leaders who build bridges, not echo chambers.
Why Aren’t We Mobilizing Experts and Citizens?
Because no one is coordinating. Because urgency is missing. But every educated, passionate Tegaru whether in Mekelle or Melbourne has a role. We need task forces, think tanks, mentorship programs, and civic initiatives. Action must replace analysis paralysis.
What Can We Do TODAY?
We reject failed leadership. We build civic institutions. We mentor the next generation. We support the return and reintegration of IDPs. We invest in youth. We act with purpose and unity. No single act is too small. No honest voice is irrelevant.
Are We Ready for Another War?
No. And without truth, unity, and leadership reform, we will lose not just battles, but ourselves. We must prioritize moral clarity, people-centered defense, and a politics that serves survival, not ego.
The Bottom Line
This is not just analysis it’s a call to action. Tigray is dying, and silence is betrayal. Every minute we delay is another step toward collapse.
Let’s rise. Let’s organize. Let’s save Tigray.
Not tomorrow — now.
