Diplomatic Training for Parliamentary Friendship Group and Public Diplomacy Team Underway
A three-day training program for members of Ethiopia’s Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Public Diplomacy Team officially began this week at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighting a key step in building the country’s diplomatic strength from within.
Jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@MFAEthiopia) and the Institute of Foreign Affairs (@ifa_ethiopia), the program brings together around 160 participants from both parliament and the broader public diplomacy sector. The aim is clear: to better prepare Ethiopia’s representatives to engage confidently and effectively on the global stage.
The opening session featured a keynote address by H.E. Ambassador Hadera Abera, State Minister for Political and Economic Affairs, who emphasized the critical role of parliamentarians in representing Ethiopia’s interests beyond its borders.
“Diplomacy today is a shared responsibility. Parliamentarians can play a powerful role in shaping narratives, building friendships, and advocating for Ethiopia across international platforms,” said Ambassador Hadera.
Throughout the training, participants will dive into topics such as foreign policy, diplomacy, international protocol, etiquette, and public diplomacy. The sessions are designed not only to build technical knowledge, but also to foster confidence and coherence in how Ethiopia engages with the world.
Facilitators include experienced diplomats, policy experts, and senior officials from the Ministry and the Institute, all of whom bring deep knowledge and real-world insights to the training room.
As Ethiopia continues to strengthen its diplomatic posture and global partnerships, initiatives like this play a central role in equipping the country’s representatives with the tools they need to engage meaningfully and strategically.
