Ambassador Massinga Meets Tigray Defense Force Leadership to Discuss Security and Regional Issues
U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Massinga, has held a significant meeting with senior leadership of the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF) during his visit to shire, according to local sources.
The discussion, which focused on pressing security matters and the evolving humanitarian and political landscape in the region, the safety of civilians, and broader regional dynamics. Ambassador Massinga also explored the perspectives of Tigrayan military leaders on the stalled implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement.
According to officials familiar with the meeting, both parties raised concerns over the continued presence of non-regional and foreign forces in parts of Tigray, especially in Western Tigray and the northern border zones. The Ambassador was briefed on the ongoing security threats and the urgent need for international guarantees to ensure the safe return of displaced persons.
The visit is part of Ambassador Massinga’s broader engagement with a wide range of stakeholders in Tigray, including humanitarian partners, civil society groups, political leaders, and now, military authorities.
Observers say the Ambassador’s direct engagement with TDF commanders signals growing international concern about Ethiopia’s fragile peace and the need to address unresolved military and political issues through dialogue and accountability.
