Ethiopia and Djibouti Deepen Strategic Logistics Cooperation for Regional Industrial Projects
The Chairman of the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) hosted a high-level delegation from the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia this morning at Red Sea World, led by H.E. Mr. Habtamu Tegegn, Minister of Mines. The visit marked a continued strengthening of bilateral cooperation in logistics and infrastructure to support industrial development across the region.
The discussions centered on the coordination of logistics for heavy equipment destined for a major fertilizer production facility in Ethiopia’s Ogaden Region, specifically in Godeh. The two sides reviewed operational strategies for handling over-dimensional cargo (ODC) along the Djibouti Corridor—a critical trade and logistics artery linking the port of Djibouti to eastern Ethiopia.
The delegation also discussed the transportation requirements for the Dangote fertilizer project, which involves moving equipment of considerable scale—up to 400 tons in weight, 54 meters in length, and 12 meters in diameter.
DPFZA, through the Djibouti Multipurpose Port (DMP), showcased its capacity to manage such complex cargo movements. The port authority highlighted its specialized handling capabilities, advanced facilities, and operational resilience in managing large-scale industrial shipments.
During the visit, Minister Tegegn toured the quays and railway infrastructure at both the Djibouti Multipurpose Port and the Société de Gestion du Terminal à Djibouti (SGTD). The delegation was provided with technical briefings on port operations and multimodal logistics integration.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and innovation in facilitating regional trade and industrial investment. The Ethiopian Minister commended the efficiency and professionalism of Djibouti’s port system, underscoring its importance as a trusted partner in regional economic development.
This engagement reflects the shared vision of Djibouti and Ethiopia to strengthen infrastructure connectivity, enhance trade logistics, and advance industrial projects that contribute to long-term regional growth.
