Ethiopia Pushes for Sudanese-Led Peace and Urges Global Action to End Crisis at London Sudan Conference
At the London Sudan Conference, Ethiopia called for a Sudanese-led peace process, stressing the need for a lasting ceasefire to protect civilians and stronger international support for humanitarian aid and refugees.
Ethiopia’s leadership effort in addressing Sudan’s crisis goes beyond calls for peace. In March 2025, Ethiopia hosted a high-level coordination forum in Addis Ababa, bringing together regional and international special envoys to strengthen coordination for humanitarian relief efforts. The forum sought to ensure that international partners work together more effectively to address the urgent humanitarian needs in Sudan, while also supporting a lasting peace process led by the Sudanese people.
Furthermore, in July 2024, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited Sudan’s army chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in Port Sudan. This visit highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing role in facilitating dialogue and providing critical humanitarian assistance to Sudan.
Through its leadership and regional influence, Ethiopia’s diplomatic efforts continue to focus on both peacebuilding and the delivery of vital aid to those affected by the conflict.
