“Fire Destroys Tigrayan Refugee Camp in Sudan, Leaving Many Homeless
A devastating fire broke out at a refugee camp in Sudan housing displaced Tigrayans, causing significant destruction to shelters and belongings.
The blaze erupted late on April 16, 2025, at around 9:45 PM, burning down multiple homes and businesses. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, according to camp coordinators and witnesses.
Residents struggled to contain the flames, leaving many without shelter or food. This marks the fifth fire incident in recent days, with previous blazes claiming the lives of two children and destroying critical infrastructure.
Hundreds of thousands of Tigrayan refugees, many from Western Tigray Zone, continue to face dire conditions in Sudanese camps, battling hunger, disease, and inadequate shelter. The repeated fires have exacerbated their suffering, raising concerns over safety and humanitarian support.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the latest fire, but displaced families are calling for urgent assistance to rebuild their shelters and secure basic necessities.
