How Long Will Eastern Tigray Tolerate the Imposition of Awel Said While Its Own Children Are Rejected?
The people of Eastern Tigray have long been known for their commitment to justice, unity, and thepreservation of Tigrayan identity. Like every part of Tigray, they have paid tremendous sacrifices inall major historical struggles-from the 17-year war against the Derg, the 1990 war against theShaebia invasion, to the recent genocide resistance of 2013 (EC).
Despite historical and ongoing injustices, the people of the Eastern Zone have consistently chosenthe path of peace and development, without waiting for handouts or favor. Their strong culturalidentity, unmatched hospitality, and deep sense of community stand as a testament to the proudTigrayan spirit.
Unfortunately, a splinter faction within the TPLF-driven by power, not principle-has repeatedlybetrayed these values and inflicted harm upon the people of Eastern Tigray.
This group’s actionshave been divisive, reckless, and disrespectful to both the sacrifices and dignity of our people. Keygrievances include:- Abandonment of the Irob, Zalambessa, and Gulo Mekeda Communities:
These areas remainunder Shaebia occupation, while the so-called leaders of Tigray turn a blind eye.- Insult and Humiliation of Our People: Peaceful demonstrations and cultural expressions have beenmocked and suppressed by media loyal to this faction. We remind all that dignity (Adbar) is a matterof consciousness, not ethnicity or geography.- Corruption and Criminality in Governance:
Those accused of embezzling war resources, engagingin land theft, and human trafficking have been shielded and even empowered by militarycommanders, turning crime into culture.-
Disruption of the Interim Administration: This faction has not only refused peaceful political reformbut has violently interrupted the operations of the interim government, using the security apparatusto advance its narrow agenda.
These acts insult the legacy of our martyrs and degrade the image of our proud army. The people ofEastern Tigray, particularly the youth, have faced systematic marginalization under this group’s rule. Today, even basic movement is denied to reformists from our region-an injustice that we will notaccept in silence.Despite the public narrative of forming an “inclusive interim administration” under Lt. Gen.
TadesseWorede, we, the Eastern Tigray Regional Administration, do not recognize any administration thatincludes individuals who have not contributed to the struggle and who continue to suppress thereformist movement.
Our Position:-
We reject the inclusion of this illegitimate faction in the interim government.- We call upon all sons and daughters of Eastern Tigray, both at home and abroad, to join acomprehensive and organized resistance to liberate our zone from this repression.-
We respect and appreciate the cadres working for genuine reform and national unity.- We warn those who serve as enablers of this racist and oppressive group to abandon their betrayaland return to the path of justice.
