IGAD and Sweden Deepen Decades-Long Partnership in High-Level Meeting

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the Government of Sweden reaffirmed their longstanding partnership during a high-level meeting held today to review ongoing collaborative projects and identify new areas of cooperation.

The meeting was co-chaired by IGAD Executive Secretary H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu and H.E. Ambassador Hans Lundquist, Sweden’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, and accredited representative to IGAD.

Key areas of discussion included joint efforts in advancing the blue economy, promoting gender equality, enhancing migration governance, and empowering youth—priority sectors that align with IGAD’s broader vision of building a peaceful, inclusive, and resilient region.

IGAD expressed its sincere gratitude to the Government of Sweden for its unwavering support and over 40 years of partnership dedicated to sustainable development and regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
