Press Release from Salsay Weyane Tigray
Compounding the already devastating consequences of the genocidal war, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and its military wing are committing egregious human rights violations, including the targeted killings and torture of Tigrayan citizens based on their political beliefs. Under the pretense of a “law and order enforcement” campaign, the TPLF has openly admitted responsibility for these acts of violence. It is a fundamental principle of law that no political organization possesses the legitimate authority to usurp the legal system and enforce order through extrajudicial means. Yet, the TPLF persists in employing brutal force to suppress public dissent against its illegal dissolution of established governmental structures.
Beyond the documented civilian fatalities in Adi Gudom and Mekhoni, irrefutable photographic evidence of bullet wounds and the contusions inflicted by TPLF torture has circulated widely on social media platforms. Salsay Weyane Tigray unequivocally condemns these acts of terrorism.
We demand that the TPLF leadership immediately rescind the unlawful martial law decree imposed two months ago, which effectively eliminates all peaceful avenues for resolving the ongoing political crisis and addressing the systemic human rights abuses.
We further reiterate our urgent appeal to international human rights organizations to conduct thorough and impartial investigations into these rampant ongoing violations and to bring them to the attention of the international community for the purposes of accountability and justice.
