Salsay Weyane Tigray calls for immediate withdrawal of Eritrean Forces from Tigray
Salsay Weyane Tigray remains deeply concerned by the persistent delays in the implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA), particularly regarding the complete withdrawal of external forces, the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees, and the restoration of the prior constitutional status.
We acknowledge the recent public discourse between the governments of Ethiopia and Eritrea concerning the situation in Tigray. While we recognize the importance of addressing the occupation of Tigrayan territories and the treatment of Tigrayan civilians by Eritrean forces, we emphasize that a comprehensive approach is essential. A selective focus on any single aspect of the agreement risks undermining the overall peace process.
We draw the Federal Government’s attention and all relevant stakeholders to the CoHA mandates the simultaneous implementation of all its provisions. This includes, but is not limited to, the withdrawal of all forces, the secure and dignified return of IDPs and refugees, and the restoration of constitutional order throughout Tigray. Significant portions of Western, Northwestern, and Southern Tigray remain under the control of forces affiliated with the Federal Government, and their withdrawal is a crucial component of the agreement.
Salsay Weyane Tigray urges the international community to recognize the serious concerns of the Tigrayan people regarding any potential escalation of tensions. We reiterate that any recourse to the use of force, under any pretext, is detrimental to the pursuit of a lasting and just peace. We also renew our call for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Eritrean forces from all Tigrayan territories.
