Statement from the Alliance of Tigrayans for National Redemption

Urgent Call to Address the Unlawful Power Grab and Regional Destabilization in Tigray

The Alliance of Tigrayans for National Redemption (ATNR) – a coalition of the Tigray Independence Party (TIP), the National Congress of Great Tigray (Baytona), and Arena Tigray for Democracy and Sovereignty (Arena)—remains committed to a peaceful struggle within the newly established Regional Interim Council. Our mission is to safeguard the rule of law and ensure the full reinstatement of the Interim Administration at all levels of government.

However, Tigray is facing an escalation crisis as TPLF cadre generals and their allies within the TPLF office attempt to seize power through illegal means. This unlawful coup attempt is dismantling governmental structures from the grassroots to the highest levels, pushing the region into deeper instability.

This reckless power grab is not an isolated act—it is coordinated with the Eritrean regime, which has long sought to destabilize Tigray. Their active involvement is exacerbating tensions across East Africa and the Red Sea region, threatening broader regional security.

In light of these developments, we urgently call upon international actors and all guarantors of the Pretoria Agreement to intervene immediately. The rule of law must be upheld to prevent further chaos and avert a catastrophic regional crisis. Swift action is necessary to halt Eritrean interference and the destabilizing role of foreign actors working against the peace and stability of the region.
