Statement from the Representation in Ethiopia Concerning the Situation in the Tigray Region

Thursday, March 13, 2025 – In light of the ongoing political divisions within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), we express our profound concern regarding the declining peace and stability in the Tigray region. It is important to recall that this area has endured a catastrophic war with the Ethiopian federal government, which was only resolved two years ago with the signing of the Pretoria Agreement in November 2022 in Pretoria, South Africa.

This landmark agreement concluded two years of intense conflict between the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the TPLF. The current political rifts, coupled with mutual accusations among the TPLF’s leadership, pose a risk of dragging the region into another conflict before the people of Tigray have had the opportunity to recover from the previous war.

We call upon both factions to set aside their differences and engage in meaningful dialogue to promote peace in the region. Such a commitment is vital for advancing the continental goal of Silencing the Guns by 2030.

It is essential for the factions within the TPLF to reaffirm their dedication to peace by supporting the Global Peace 2030 Agenda, rejecting all forms of violence, and working towards a peaceful resolution of conflicts through constructive dialogue.
