Tigray Interim Administration Demands Federal Clarification Over Blocked Trucks in Afar and Weldiya
The Tigray Interim Regional Administration’s Trade and Export Agency has formally requested an explanation from Ethiopia’s federal authorities regarding the recent obstruction of trucks transporting goods to the Tigray region.
In an official letter dated 20/09/2017 EC (May 28, 2025), the Agency expressed deep concern over the unlawful halting of cargo trucks in Afar and Weldiya, which were legally transporting essential trade goods. The blockage, which reportedly occurred starting on 18/09/2017 EC, has disrupted the supply chain and delayed much-needed commercial and humanitarian deliveries into Tigray.
This appeal adds to growing tensions between regional and federal authorities over trade access and humanitarian movement, raising concerns among local business owners and civil society groups about the integrity of peace and reconstruction efforts in Tigray .
Stay tuned for updates.
