Tigray’s DDR Program to Resume After Month-Long Suspension

The Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program is set to resume operations in Tigray after more than a month of suspension, according to the region’s newly restructured DDR Commission.

The Commission confirmed that the program, which had been on hold since late June, will officially recommence on Thursday, August 1, 2025 (Hamle 24, 2017 E.C). The activities will be carried out at the Meles Campus coordination center and will also extend to the areas of Edaga Hamus and Addi Berak.

Officials did not provide specific reasons for the delay but emphasized that the resumption marks a renewed effort to stabilize post-conflict communities and reintegrate former combatants into civilian life.

The DDR program has been a key component of the Pretoria peace agreement, aimed at facilitating long-term security and reconciliation in the region following the devastating two-year war.

Local residents and former fighters have expressed hope that the program’s resumption will contribute to lasting peace and economic recovery in war-affected areas of Tigray.
