Salsay Weyane Tigray Rejects the Newly Formed TIRA Cabinet
Salsay Weyane Tigray has consistently asserted that the ongoing crisis in Tigray stems from the TPLF’s dominance over TIRA. This blatant disregard for the Pretoria Agreement, which mandated the establishment of an inclusive interim administration, has rendered TIRA a casualty of the TPLF’s internal power struggles. The recent extension of TIRA’s mandate for an additional year and the appointment of a new president have only exacerbated this deeply flawed situation.
To our profound dismay, the new TIRA president has unilaterally appointed a cabinet, completely excluding all other stakeholders. This cabinet, even more egregiously than its predecessor, is composed entirely of members of a single TPLF faction. Furthermore, it has moved swiftly to dismantle offices established to broaden democratic spaces and ensure a level playing field for free and fair elections. Such an administration is not only incapable of serving the needs of the Tigrayan people but will also serve as a tool to entrench the power of a moribund political entity. This will undoubtedly undermine any prospect of lasting peace.
This illegitimate cabinet is fundamentally incapable of fostering a genuinely open political space or creating the necessary conditions for free, fair, and peaceful elections. Its actions will inevitably lead to a further tightening of the repressive environment and the consolidation of a single-party dictatorship.
Therefore, Salsay Weyane Tigray unequivocally rejects this newly formed cabinet and the deeply flawed process employed by the TIRA president. We urgently call upon all stakeholders to pressure the Federal Government and all relevant parties to uphold the spirit of the Pretoria Agreement in the establishment of TIRA, and to pursue a path towards sustainable peace through genuinely inclusive platforms.
