Urgent letter from Tigrean Activist to president Joe Biden

By Raya Rayuma
Dear,
President Joe Biden
Ambassador Samantha Power
European Union
Council of the European Union

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent decision to stop the mandate of the inquiry team investigating the atrocities and potential genocide in the Tigray region. The decision has understandably generated public anger, particularly among the victims who are seeking justice and accountability.

Investigating and documenting atrocities is of utmost importance to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and to prevent such heinous acts from happening in the future. The inquiry team’s work was a crucial step towards shedding light on the situation in Tigray and providing justice to the victims.

By halting the mandate of the inquiry team, you risk undermining the credibility of the investigation and eroding the trust of the affected population. It is vital that the EU, USA recognizes the urgency and gravity of the situation and reaffirms its commitment to addressing the atrocities in Tigray.

I respectfully urge the EU, and USA  to reconsider this decision and reinstate the inquiry team’s mandate. Doing so will not only provide justice and closure to the victims, but also demonstrate the EU’s and USA unwavering commitment to upholding human rights, accountability, and the pursuit of justice.

The victims and the people of Tigray deserve nothing less than a thorough and impartial investigation. I believe that the EU, and USA as a champion of human rights and justice, has the capacity to rectify this decision and ensure that the inquiry team continues its crucial work in Tigray.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my concerns. I trust that you will carefully evaluate the impact of this decision and make the necessary steps to restore faith in the pursuit of justice in Tigray.

Sincerely,
Baruck Hashem
Human Right activist
