A group of concerned Tigrayans in the diaspora calls to Tadesse Werede,to form inclusice government body
To: L/General Tadesse Werede, President of the Tigray Interim Administration (TIA)
Subject: Your new role and our concerns and hope
Your excellency L/G Tadesse Werede,
We, a group of concerned Tigrayans in the diaspora have learned that you have been
appointed as the new President of the Tigray Interim Administration (TIA) for the remaining
period of the transition. Even though we regret the unlawful removal of the former TIA presidency and cabinet by the army that was under your leadership creating an unwanted precedence, history has put you in this position to redeem your legacy. Hoping you will be
able to continue the long-awaited changes the people of Tigray deserve to fully recover
from the impacts of the devastating war, we bring to your attention the following key issues:
- Immediately ending harassment, intimidation, arbitrary arrests and violent treatment of civilians and political figures, including former TIA members.
- We strongly urge you to seek advice from the Tigray Interim Council when the new
cabinet is assembled as per the new directive. The fair and equitable representation and
composition are very critical to solving the current crises. - To ensure the success of your administration, we demand that the existing Interim
Council be strengthened and empowered to oversee TIA’s performance. - For a healthy and effective execution of your administration’s goals and objectives, it is
necessary that your core team is made up of members who will not hold the administration hostage due to political squabbles, are competent and represent all segments of the people of Tigray including the youth. - According to the Pretoria agreement, ensuring the immediate return of IDPs and
restoration of the territorial integrity of Tigray. - Continuing the process of separation of party and government systems, which we
believe has been at the core of Tigray’s political decay. - Making sure that the Tigray political space remains inclusive, civil, and one that focuses
on the vital and survival interests of the people of Tigray. - Ensuring freedom of expression, including free media, allowing Tigrayans to freely
express their views, concerns and aspirations. - Segregation of duties to restrain TDF from interfering in political affairs and involvement
in police work. TDF needs to maintain neutrality to earn respect by all Tigrayans 10. All positions of economic & public enterprises that have a profound impact on Tigray
should be filled with the consultation and approval of the Tigray Interim Council.
The people in Tigray, elsewhere in Ethiopia, the diaspora and the world at large are
watching your next steps, and we hope will not be disappointed. We hope your
administration will take our recommendations seriously and, on our part, we extend our invitation for continue engagement to support your administration in ways we can.
