Eritrean Regime Escalates Military Mobilization, Threatening Regional Stability
The Eritrean government has once again signaled its intent to engage in armed conflict, as announced on national television. Every man and woman over the age of 16 is being forcibly conscripted into the military, perpetuating a decades-long strategy of militarization to sustain the regime’s power at the expense of its citizens.
Over the past four years, Eritrea has aligned itself with the Ethiopian military, actively participating in the genocide against the Tigrayan people. Thousands of lives have been lost, and before the affected communities have had a chance to recover, the Eritrean leadership is already laying the groundwork for another war. This blatant disregard for human life and regional stability underscores the regime’s failure to engage in peaceful diplomacy and respect its own citizens’ well-being.
Isaias Afewerki, Eritrea’s long-standing ruler, has consistently prioritized conflict over diplomacy, sacrificing countless Eritrean lives to maintain his grip on power. His approach to governance is rooted in oppression and militarization, sustaining a cycle of perpetual warfare that destabilizes the entire region. This must end.
The international community—including the United Nations, world leaders, and the African Union—must take urgent action to prevent another devastating conflict in East Africa. Failure to intervene now will result in further loss of innocent lives, solely to serve the ambitions of one man. The time to act is before another war breaks out, before regional instability escalates beyond control, and before more families are torn apart.
As members of the Blue Revolution, a movement dedicated to justice and freedom in Eritrea, we strongly condemn these actions and call on the world to recognize the threat this regime poses—not just to Eritreans, but to Africa as a whole.
