Protesters in Maichew, Southern Tigray oppose TPLF’s plan to dissolve local administration
Residents of Maichew, southern Tigray, held a protest today against the recent declaration by the TPLF to dissolve southern Tigray’s local administration.
The demonstrations were sparked by remarks made earlier this month by TPLF chairman Debretsion Gebremichael, who said during an interview with a party affiliated media outlet that the Party intends to restructure the southern zone’s administration similar to changes the party has enacted in other parts of the region.
The protesters warned that any attempt to enforce political changes without public consent could lead to further unrest.
“The people should choose their own leaders,” one protester told Wegahta, “We reject any attempt to impose leadership by the TPLF,”
Similar protests are expected to be held across other towns of Southern Tigray in the coming days.
