Joint Committee Affirms Full Agreement Implementation, Swift DDR and IDP Resettlement, Launch of Political Dialogue, Extends MVCM Mandate Until December 2024
Joint Commit urges the need to resettle IDPs, expedite DDR process, launch political dialogue and extend MVCM mandate as AU convened the 3rd joint meeting of the Ethiopian Peace Process on Friday.
“The Joint Committee concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to the full implementation of the Agreement, the need to expedite the DDR and the resettlement of IDPs, the imperative to launch political dialogue to address outstanding issues from the Permanent COHA and agreed to convene a strategic reflection session involving the AU High-Level Panel in Ethiopia at the earliest possible time but not later than two months. The meeting proposed the extension of the mandate of the MVCM from 1 January to 31 December 2024.” AU official page stated.
According to the page, the AU appreciated both Ethiopian government and the TPLF for their commitment to the full implementation of the Pretoria agreement.
The joint committee that comprises representatives of both signatories, the IGAD as well as members of the AU high-level panel was inaugurated in February 2023 to monitor the implementation of the Pretoria Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed between Ethiopian government and the TPLF on Nov 2, 2022.
