Ras Alula Aba Nega of Tigray is celebrated as one of the most heroic generals in world history, particularly for his role in the Battle of Adwa, where Italian forces were decisively defeated. His memory and anniversary are revered not only by Tigrayans but also by Africans and even by adversaries. Alula’s strategic brilliance and military ingenuity were instrumental in securing victory, making him a national and global hero.
At the Battle of Dogali on 26 January, Alula’s forces ambushed and nearly annihilated an Italian battalion sent as reinforcement, showcasing Tigrayan-African military prowess. This battle, along with the legacy of heroism from ancient times to the present, exemplifies the spirit of Tigray and inspires pride among its people.
Alula’s leadership and achievements continue to be a source of inspiration for Tigrayans and serve as a reminder of their resilience and valor throughout history.
