Ministry of Tourism establishes national committee for heritage registration
The Ministry of Tourism has announced the establishment of a national-level committee for heritage registration in its 9-month plan implementation report presented to the House of Representatives yesterday.
According to Minister of Tourism, Ambassador Nassise Chali, the committee comprises experts from the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, Ethiopian Heritage Authority, and various higher education institutions. Its mandate is to identify heritage sites across the country for registration over the next ten years.
The minister further stated that the new system shifts from the previous approach, which relied on area requests and researcher investigations. The committee will focus on identifying heritages based on common values and will prioritize those at risk of being lost.
The Ministry’s report also highlighted the return of seven artifacts looted from the country during the Magdala war, which were brought back from #England. Additionally, the Ministry’s offices in the regions and city administrations registered 7,150 movable heritages, with 500 heritages fully documented in the digital database, and 1,196 fixed heritages were also registered.
