Amhara Gunmen Kill an Eritrean Refugee

“Last week, four gunmen raided the Alemwach Refugees camp on Friday evening and abducted him (Mr. Berhe, a 50 year old man and a father of seven). His body was found abandoned the next day,” his wife told abducted and killed an Eritrean refugee from the UN-run Alemwach camp in North Gondar zone, Amhara region, in Ethiopia, BBC reported, quoting the deceased’s family members. Lemlem Berhe, 50, was abducted by four gunmen and later found dead a few kilometres from the refugee site on May 18.

The Alemwach camp was established by the UN High Commission for Refugees two years ago to host Eritreans, who had been displaced from another camp in Tigray due to the 2020-22 war in northern Ethiopia. Lemlem was married and had children in the same refugee camp. Neither the Ethiopian Refugees and Returnees Service nor the UN refugee agency had commented on the alleged killing at the time of filing the report.
