Joint Communiqué of the Trilateral Summit of Egypt,Eritrea and Somalia.
- At the invitation of the President of Eritrea, H.E. Isaias Afwerki, a trilateral
summit was convened on October 10, 2024, in Asmara, the capital of Eritrea,
with the participation of H.E. Abdel Fattah EI-Sisi, President of the Arab
Republic of Egypt, and H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the
Federal Republic of Somalia. The three leaders engaged in extensive
consultations, addressing a wide range of regional and international issues. - The leaders of the three countries emphasized the critical importance of
adhering to fundamental principles and the core tenets of international law,
recognizing them as essential for ensuring regional stability and fostering
cooperation. They particularly stressed the need to respect the sovereignty
and territorial integrity of all countries in the region and to prevent any
justification for interference in their internal affairs. Furthermore, the leaders
committed to coordinating joint efforts aimed at promoting regional stability
and creating a conducive environment for inclusive and sustainable
development. - The enhancement of cooperation and connectivity between the three
countries is intended to strengthen the capacity of Somalia’s state institutions
in addressing various internal and external challenges. Additionally, it was
agreed that the Somali National Army will be empowered to effectively
combat terrorism in all its forms. This initiative also encompasses the
protection of Somalia’s land and maritime borders, ensuring the preservation
of its territorial integrity. - furthermore, the summit engaged in extensive discussions on key issues and
reached a consensus on the following:
- The ongoing crisis in Sudan and its implications for regional stability.
The situation in Somalia, in light of recent regional developments.
Security and cooperation among the coastal states bordering the Red
Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, acknowledging the critical
importance of this strategic maritime route.
Diplomatic coordination and joint efforts among the three countries.
- The leaders of the three countries welcomed the efforts of the Governments
of Eritrea and the Arab Republic of Egypt in supporting Somalia’s stability and
in strengthening the capacity of the Federal Government of Somalia. Egypt’s
proposal to contribute its forces to peacekeeping efforts in Somalia was
particularly commended. - The leaders agreed to establish a trilateral joint committee, consisting of the
Foreign Ministers of Eritrea, Egypt, and Somalia, to oversee and advance
strategic cooperation across all areas.
