“May you live in interesting times” say the Chinese in an ironic blessing that also doubles as a curse. What’s interesting here is the mind blowing speed of the turn of events in Ethiopian politics, and the curse needless to say, is sadly what we all witnessed were those longest two years of pain humanity can endure and to this day the tragedy continues. Now back to the subject if the Amhara resist the dictats and whims of Doctor Abiy they do so at their own peril, but Fano will only be willing and able to go to war if only it has the backing of the ever present nemesis to peace Mr. Issayas. Time will tell if Eritrea is willing to gamble whatever is left of it’s existence to defend the Amhara, which I personally doubt but then again everyone has their own poison. Here’s what I commented on the subject exactly 2 years ago today…unedited; I totally disagree that Amhara expansionism quite simply explains the problems in western Tigray and elsewhere the conflict is occurring.
Of course there is the question of agricultural land and resources that any people would go to war for but that is the veneer, the smokescreen behind an agenda greater than just land, if it is land that the Amharu are after why wasn’t a word uttered when a vast swath of land was literally annexed by the Sudan ?
Why is West Tigray important… To the Amhara it is a political lifeline an international land bridge to Eritrea, a crucial ally, a comrade Nation to count on in case the Oromo take over the center of power in Finfine. This Land Bridge is a much more important and a proactively thought of undertaking by the ever crafty Issayas and his Amhara cohorts… firstly to cut of Tigray from any international contact land or air, thus the SIEGE of Tigray became complete. Secondly to Issayas this ‘land bridge’ has become his only space in which he can fulfill his cannibalistic dream of smothering Tigray to a litteral Death. Shabiya knows full well that the honeymoon with Abiy may come to an end very soon, and the Bahr Dar- Asmara pact can and must be maintained only through West Tigray. Once you free Wolkayt and Humera it will be the END of terrestrial Shabiya intervention in Ethiopia and more importantly the beginning of the end of Amhara supremacist ambition in “Ethiopia”. I don’t know why the LIHIKAN in Tigray keep repeating Amhara expansionism ad nauseam whilst the real reason is just that. W.Tigray is a political Jagular vain when once compromised, will usher a new alignment of forces led by the Oromo of course and the end of an Ethiopia as we knew it. And the beginning of a Tigray paradigm shift from looking SOUTH for solutions to it’s existence; back to it’s original rather natural calculus of finding the ANSWER is to the NORTH.
