Chinese Delegation to visit Tigray
Chinese Delegation led by China’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Xue Bing will pay a work visit to Tigray on Tuesday.
During its visit, the delegation is expected to meet Tigray IRA President Getachew Reda and his cabinet members in his office this afternoon.
Previously, a large delegation from China headed by it Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan visited Tigray in June 2023 to speak to Tigray IRA President Getachew Reda on the implementation of the Pretoria peace agreement.
In the first ever visit by Chinese Embassy to a region in Ethiopia in June, the Ambassador had indicated Chinese Special Envoy for the Horn will travel to Mekelle to speak with Tigray IRA cabinet members.
Today’s delegation will also pay a visit to Giba Dam, a potable water project in outskirt of the capital Mekelle.
It is to be recalled that In May 4, 2023 President Getachew Reda discussed with top managers of CGGC Company on the restart of the formerly interrupted construction of Giba Dam.
The construction of Giba Dam started in 2019, a year before the outbreak of the war, aiming to alleviate the capital’s potable water problem.
According to the Tigray IRA President Office, the delegation led by the Special Envoy will also visit Mekelle University later today.
