Irob Community Faces Catastrophe Under Eritrean Occupation
The Tigrayan population along the Eritrean border, particularly the Irob people is suffering horrificatrocities at the hands of occupying Eritrean forces. These brutalities threaten the very existence ofthe Irob community.
Beyond the daily violence, the Eritrean regime subjects Irob youth to forced conscription. This brutaloccupation also prevents the community from accessing essential humanitarian aid and basicutilities. The war, coupled with the lack of access to farm supplies and equipment, has created acatastrophic humanitarian crisis in the area.
Furthermore, the Eritrean regime’s annexation of Tigray territory threatens the Irob community withpermanent marginalization or even destruction. This blatant disregard for international conventionsprotecting minority and indigenous peoples is a dereliction of duty.
Salsay Weyane Tigray reiterates its call for the withdrawal of all external forces from Tigray. Thesituation in occupied areas, particularly Irob, worsens daily. We urge the Ethiopian government andthe international community to pressure the invaders and liberate the population from the brink ofextinction.
