EU, partners launch program to revitalize MSMEs in conflict-affected areas with 2.2 billion birr economic recovery support
The European Union (EU) and its partners have initiated a four-year program aimed at bolstering the local economy and enhancing the resilience of micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) impacted by crises in Ethiopia, with a specific focus on #Afar, #Amhara, and #Tigray regions.
This jointly funded 36 million Euro (2.2 billion birr) initiative involves contributions from the European Union, the German Government, and the Ministry for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands. The program is being executed by #KfW Development Bank, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (#GIZ), and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (#UNCDF).
In the wake of challenges and crises jeopardizing Ethiopia’s economic progress and poverty alleviation efforts, MSMEs have borne the brunt of the impact. The program seeks to facilitate the economic recovery of MSMEs in post-conflict areas by enhancing their access to finance.
