Salsay Weyane Tigray Stands with IDPs Protesting in Mekelle, Demands Urgent Action
Mekelle, Tigray -January 14, 2025(Tigray Herald)
Tigray Opposition Salsay Weyane expressed support for the peaceful demonstration organized by IDPs from Western Tigray. The demonstrators, rallying in Mekelle, are calling for immediate justice, humanitarian relief, and their return home after more than four years of displacement.
Salsay Weyane condemned what it described as ‘deliberate state policy to annihilate Tigrayans’ as the Party issued statement on Monday. The party stressed that the IDPs’ protest is a legitimate and necessary appeal for their rights to be restored and their suffering to end. “This demonstration is a desperate plea to the Ethiopian government and the international community for urgent attention. Years of suffering, driven by the deliberate state policy to annihilate Tigrayans, have pushed our people to this point.”, Party stated. “Salsay Weyane Tigray expresses its unwavering solidarity with our people.
We reiterate our call upon all concerned parties, including the Ethiopian government, the Tigray Interim Regional Administration, the African Union, and key observers like the EU and USA, to: listen to the plight of the millions of affected people, address the urgent humanitarian crisis, work diligently to implement the peace agreement.” It added. Salsay Weyane urged the Ethiopian government, the Tigray Interim Regional Administration, the African Union, and international observers including the European Union and the United States to respond urgently to the humanitarian crisis facing displaced populations and ensure the full implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement. As the peaceful protest continues, demonstrators have voiced their determination to see tangible solutions to their long-standing grievances. The protest by IDPs will continue until tomorrow evening calling for full implementation of Pretoria agreement and the return of the IDPs to their long-missed home.
