Netblocks confirmed Facebook, Messenger, TikTok and Telegram have been restricted from Thursday 9th of Feb. 2023 amidst anti-gov.t protests over a split in the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido church.
Ethiopia has shut down Facebook and Telegram in Addis Ababa in an attempt to quell religious strife since yesterday.
Ethiopia is reportedly restricting social media and messaging apps due to religious tensions.
According to Netblokos, Facebook, Messenger, Tiktok and Telegram have been suspended from Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Addis Ababa and its surroundings.
The social media platforms were suspended due to ongoing anti-government protests following a split in the EthiopianOrthodox Church.
Following this, people are using alternative psiphon and VPN.
