The EthiopianOrthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) had sought to normalize relations with the TigrayOrthodox Tewahedo Church but the Archbishop of Adigrat, HH Abune Merha Kristos, said “our position remains unchanged.”
The Tigray Orthodox Church leaders had severed their relationship with the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church because, for over 2 years, the later officially supported the mass rape, murder and starvation of more than 6m Tigrayan Christians by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces.
Asked about his remarks on the ongoing crisis that has fractured the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church after rebel bishops created the “Holy Synod of Oromia and Nations and Nationalities,” His Holiness Abune Merha Kristos simply replied “we do not know anything about it.”
