The photograph was prepared and sent to Dr. Melaku Abrha, a surgeon at the Catherine Hamlin Fistula Foundation in Mekelle, Tigray, by one of his patients.
This individual could have been a candidate for a Nobel Prize, similar to Dr. Denis Mukwege, who was recognized with the prestigious award for his work in treating patients with fistula resulting from sexual assault and obstructed labor due to limited access to obstetric services in a conflict zone.
However, in order for the world to be aware of the existence of such individuals, they must be promoted at a local level. Why do we fail to do so?
