A powerful letter on Dawit’s crisis for international leaders.
I am (we are) writing to you with a sense of urgency regarding a matter that deeplyconcerns us. It has come to my (our) attention that Mr. Dawit Gebregziabher, a citizen ofEthiopia, a prominent Tigrean businessman and philantropist, has reportedly beendetained since last Thursday in Dubai. We are reaching out to request your assistance inobtaining information about his whereabouts and ensuring his safety and well-being.
According to the latest information available to me (us), there are concerns that Mr.Gebregziabher may be at risk of political persecution if he is extradited to Ethiopia.Reports suggest that a delegation of eight Ethiopian military intelligence personnel hasarrived in Dubai, raising fears that Mr. Gebregziabher may be forcibly transported toEthiopia where he could face unjust treatment.
Given the seriousness of these allegations, I (we) kindly urge you to use your influenceand resources to investigate this matter promptly. It is imperative that Mr.Gebregziabher’s rights are protected and that he is afforded due process under the law.As a resident for of UAE for over 45 years and who has trust in judicial system of the UAE,he deserves fair treatment and should not be subjected to any form of harassment orintimidation.
Furthermore, I (we) respectfully request that you keep us informed of any developmentsregarding this case. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated as it willhelp alleviate the concerns of Mr. Gebregziabher’s family, friends, and compatriots.
