Unveiling the Dark Nexus: Exploitative Collaboration in the Tigray Genocide

By Yerga Yaecobe

In recent times, the Tigray region of Ethiopia has been marred by unspeakable atrocities and humanitarian crises, culminating in what can only be described as a silent genocidal war. Amidst the rubble and despair, a chilling narrative unfolds—a narrative of exploitation, collaboration, and betrayal at the hands of international actors, culminating in a condemnation that echoes across the corridors of human rights organizations worldwide.

At the heart of this narrative lies a web of clandestine connections and vested interests, where the pursuit of profit trumps the sanctity of human life. The recent acquisition of 240,000 shares of ANS Exploration, a Canadian mining company, by MITHRA Metals, a prominent UAE-based investment firm, serves as a chilling testament to this reality.

The strategic move by MITHRA Metals not only solidifies its presence within the Tigray region but also underscores a disturbing trend of collaboration with entities complicit in the ongoing genocide. By investing in ANS Exploration, MITHRA Metals knowingly aligns itself with a company poised to exploit the region’s resources, disregarding the immense suffering inflicted upon its people.

Furthermore, the involvement of the Canadian Ambassador in supporting the Tigray genocide adds another layer of complicity to this harrowing tale. Ambassador Joshua Tabah’s tacit support for the Ethiopian federal government, coupled with the UAE’s provision of drone technology and other equipment, paints a damning picture of collusion in the face of human rights abuses.

The implications of this collaboration are dire and far-reaching. Not only does it perpetuate the cycle of violence and suffering in Tigray, but it also sets a dangerous precedent for future atrocities worldwide. The UAE’s supply of drone technology to the Ethiopian government, ostensibly for the purpose of surveillance and control, only serves to exacerbate the plight of an already beleaguered population.

Moreover, the recent shift towards exploiting Tigray’s gold mining potential represents a new low in the exploitation of human suffering for financial gain. The acquisition of ANS Exploration by MITHRA Metals, under the guise of responsible and impactful investment, is nothing short of a travesty—a flagrant disregard for the principles of ethical business conduct and corporate social responsibility.

In light of these developments, it is incumbent upon the international community to take decisive action against all parties involved in the exploitation and perpetuation of the Tigray genocide. Strong condemnation from human rights organizations is not only warranted but imperative in holding accountable those who profit from the bloodshed of innocent civilians.

As the world bears witness to the unfolding tragedy in Tigray, let us not forget the complicity of those who seek to profit from its misery. Let us stand in solidarity with the people of Tigray and demand justice for the atrocities committed against them. Only then can we hope to put an end to the cycle of violence and ensure that such horrors are never repeated.
