“Urgent Call To the international community and concerned human rights organizations:
We issue this powerful condemnation against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its egregious role in sponsoring and facilitating the genocide against the people of Tigray. Mr. Dawit Gebregziabher, a prominent Tigrayan businessman and philanthropist based in the UAE, has been unjustly detained in Dubai and faces the grave threat of wrongful extradition to Ethiopia. This act underscores the UAE’s complicity and active participation in the war on Tigray.
The UAE must be held accountable for the human rights abuses, social, and economic devastation it has enabled in Tigray. As a major supplier of drone technology and other military support to the Ethiopian regime, the UAE has played a pivotal role in the atrocities committed against the Tigrayan people. The international community, including the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, must demand accountability for the UAE’s involvement in these crimes against humanity.
Furthermore, the UAE’s involvement is not limited to military support. Its corporate greed is evident in its exploitation of Tigray’s rich mineral resources, including gold and copper, under the guise of economic interest. This exploitation further exacerbates the suffering of the Tigrayan people, contributing to their ongoing genocide.
We call upon all international human rights organizations, including the United Nations, the European Union, the Human Rights Council, and Amnesty International, to unequivocally condemn the UAE’s actions. It is imperative that coordinated action be taken to address and halt the UAE’s silent genocide against the people of Tigray.
The world must not remain silent in the face of such atrocities. We demand that the international community take immediate and decisive action to hold the UAE accountable for its role in these heinous crimes.
Sincerely,
Yaecobe Yerege
