Esteemed guests
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is with great pleasure and a sense of renewed hope that I stand before you today as the Head of the Tigray Bureau of Education. Our journey has been arduous, marked by challenges and adversity.
As we all know, the past few years have been exceptionally difficult for our region. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of schools, disrupting the education of our children. But even more devastating was the war that followed—a war that left no aspect of our lives untouched. Our schools, once vibrant centers of learning, were reduced to debris. Our teachers, our students, and their families faced unimaginable hardships.
Safaricom, has taken a momentous step towards rebuilding our education system. Their generous donation of 160 laptops, 48 routers, and free internet connectivity which will empower our teachers to engage in modern teaching methods, access educational resources, and collaborate with colleagues across the globe. It will also connect our students to a world beyond their textbooks, opening doors to endless possibilities.
But this is not just about technology; it’s about hope. It’s about telling our children that despite the darkness of war, there are people who believe in their future. It’s about rebuilding not only classrooms but also dreams. As we set up these laptops and routers, let us remember that each device represents a child’s chance at a better life—a chance to learn, to dream, and to contribute to our society.
To Safaricom, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. Your commitment to education is a beacon of light in our darkest days. To the schools that will receive these gifts, cherish them. Use them to inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Let us work together to ensure that every child in Tigray has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
Today’s donation is a testimony how the Safricom will benefit Tigray in its recovery and reconstruction program and I urge everybody to embrace this new opportunity to work with Safricom services. Their entry to Tigray brings with it immense potential and benefits that positively impact our education system, economy and overall well-being. More than anywhere else we know how monopoly of Telecom services went against us.
Thank you, and may this event mark the beginning of further collaboration and partnership to restore lost hopes of every child in Tigray.
