How can bring a peace without addressing the urgent need for implementing the Pretoria peace agreement?
As leaders in the United States Bureau of African Affairs and Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, your dedication to peace in Ethiopia is commendable. However, amidst discussions on disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration, I’m compelled to ask: How can the United States justify its involvement in Ethiopian peace efforts without addressing the urgent need for implementing the Pretoria peace agreement? The ongoing crisis in Tigray, including the presence of non-ENDF forces, the plight of IDPs, and reports of genocide and atrocities, demands immediate action. How can we prioritize reconciliation and peace without ensuring justice, accountability, and the basic rights of the Tigrayan people? It’s crucial to confront these challenges head-on to achieve a lasting peace in Ethiopia and the broader region.
President Getachew Reda states in his X acount It was good to meet & have discussions with @AsstSecStateAF Molly Phee, @MikeHammerUSA & Ambassador Masinga of @USEmbassyAddis today in Addis Ababa. That we have to expedite the fullest possible implementation of the Pretoria Agreement as part of our efforts to ensure Peace in Ethiopia and the region was the main focus of our discussion. I have reaffirmed our commitment to lasting peace & to working closely with the US Government as well as other stakeholders in fully addressing the challenges our people continue to face.

Including EU and 6 countries on their Joint Statement only focus on the DDR of TDF.
Demobilization and Reintegration of Ex-combatants in Northern Ethiopia
The Embassies and Missions of Canada, the European Union, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States recognise the efforts of the National Rehabilitation Commission in bringing together the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray and the international community to advance the demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants in Northern Ethiopia, a key commitment of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA).
We commend the efforts to progress on a demobilization and reintegration process that responds to the urgent need for full implementation of the COHA, supports communities affected by conflict and encourages space for political dialogue.
We encourage the Government of Ethiopia, the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray and all stakeholders to continue to collaborate toward the common goal of a sustained recovery from conflict.
A timely and effective demobilization and reintegration process in Ethiopia is critical to advance peace, security, and development. We look forward to supporting these efforts.
