Urgent request for the 17 Months Salary for MU Civil Servants Affected by the Tigray war
Dear Prime Minister,
We write to you with heavy hearts, hoping this message reaches you amidst the tumult of our nation’s challenges. We, the civil servants of Mekelle University, find ourselves in the grip of a dire situation born from the anguish of war in Tigray.
The shadows of war have not only darkened our homes but have crept into the very fabric of our livelihoods. Many of us stand, unpaid and uncertain, awaiting the arrival of our 17th-month salary. Yet, the passage of time brings not relief, but deeper despair, as the burden of financial strain grows heavier with each passing day.
In the silence of our struggles, we endure the relentless pressure of mounting expenses. The basic necessities of life – shelter, food, and education for our children – slip further from our grasp as we are forced to seek additional work, sacrificing our health and well-being in the relentless pursuit of sustenance.
Amidst this turmoil, a somber reality looms over us – the prospect of leaving our beloved homeland in search of a glimmer of hope elsewhere.
The dream of a better life dims in the face of our inability to provide for our families, casting shadows of uncertainty over our future.
Yet, in our darkest moments, it is not merely our physical well-being that is at stake, but our very will to endure. The specter of despair looms large, driving some among us to contemplate drastic measures, their cries for help silenced by the weight of their burdens.
In this time of crisis, we beseech you, Prime Minister, to heed our plea for swift action. Let not our cries fall on deaf ears, but resonate within the halls of power as a testament to your commitment to the well-being of all citizens in Ethiopia.
We implore the government to recognize our rights as civil servants and fulfill its duty to ensure our timely compensation. Let not the sacrifices of our service be forgotten, but honored with the dignity and respect we deserve.
Beyond our borders, we call upon the international community to stand in solidarity with us, to amplify our voices and compel the government to act in our favor. Together, let us turn the tide of despair and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
With hope in our hearts and desperation in our pleas, we await your response, Prime Minister. May your actions be guided by compassion and urgency, as we strive to overcome the trials that beset us.
