Pres. Getachew is the new Lincoln to heal Tigray – a divided “Nation”
Tigray couldn’t have been divided any worse. The intractable situation is beyond one can imagine. Today’s ordeal (later adjourned cadre meeting) speaks volume. If it wasn’t for the mature political culture, one would expect a deadly fight among them just like we witnessed in region 3 when they murdered pres Ambachew. To others dismay, it’s ain’t about power struggle but demarcating state & politics.
But still, before it gets out of hand, somebody needs to step up to the plate & stop this. President Getachew Reda has the potential to be a transformative figure in Tigray, much like Abraham Lincoln was during a divided period in the United States.
The division started among groups defending TPLF’s legacy by trying to shift the blame to individuals, as seen in Mezekir’s and Berhane’s posts (aka – ५ ). Just as Lincoln united a divided nation, all things considered, Getachew’s fortitude and determination make him a promising leader for Tigray.
Known for his charisma & solid political acumen, Getachew’s speeches are as inspiring as Lincoln’s address at Gettysburg, which continues to resonate with many Americans even 150 years later. Getachew’s recent closing remarks, following a 3-day National Mourn, not only touched many souls but also leaders of opposition parties, like Kidane Amene of Baytona, who called on the President to turn his words into action.

There’s a collective desire for Getachew to be actively involved, as actions often reveal a person’s true abilities, just as you understand an athlete’s skills by watching them on the field. One could see the positive reaction giving thumbs up to PGR for firing the four entitled men who’ve been in the ranks.
Lincoln didn’t come from an elite family, but his success relied on support and entertaining conflicting ideas, like opposing slavery while not advocating for political equality for black individuals.
Similarly, Getachew is an outsider without a strong network within his party. He’s surrounded by insurmountable challenges (both inside & outside). However, the urgency for change and frustration with party leaders’ decadence is widespread among ordinary people. To challenge the prevailing mindset, he’ll need support from the community & opposition parties to differentiate the goverment from the party. Although everybody knows that the President can’t stand their political objective, it’s recommended that he avoids talking about the opposition parties but give them an opportunity to conduct their meeting – just like Baytona’s General Asembly.
Lincoln did something smililar. He strongly opposed to the principles of the Know-Nothing movement (anti immigrant), but did not denounce it publicly because he needed the votes of its membership to form a successful anti-slavery coalition in Illinois.
Lincoln’s approach of turning enemies into friends is another valuable lesson. Knows for his popular quote, the best way to destroy an enemy is to make them a friend, Getachew also cultivated a close relationship with former “President Fetlework (to use Mezeker’s description), showing the power of diplomacy and collaboration. He assigned her to be his advisor (just imagine). As he’s determined to work across the aisle to shape Tigray’s politics, he possesses the qualities required for this task

It may come with a price but the only way to defeat external threats, overcome internal resistance & survive is by recognizing his moves just the way we did when he ousted the 6 rank & files.
Lest I forget, everybody should keep the president on his toes. No free lunch!!

Though the comparison is too exaggerated, his work on separating party task with government must be supported.
