Alert and Strict Warning: Immediate Action Required
We are issuing an urgent warning regarding an illegal and highly concerning operation taking place in the Adit District Woreda, Central Zone of Tigray. Reports indicate that members of the TDF 35th Division are engaging in acts of intimidation and terror against the residents of Adit District, with a particular focus on the youth and new generation. These unlawful actions are being conducted in support of the failed Debretsion Gebremichael TPLF splinter group, aimed at silencing the voices of those who oppose this faction.
This operation constitutes a clear violation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement and is in direct contradiction to the principles upheld by the Tigray Interim Government. Such actions are illegal and must be stopped immediately.
Military Neutrality and Accountability
The TDF, as a military institution, must remain impartial and free from involvement in any political party’s agenda. The use of terror, intimidation, and coercion by military forces to suppress political opposition is unacceptable and must end immediately to protect the safety and dignity of the people of Adit District.
The following individuals have been identified as leading this unlawful operation:
Gebregziabher Wolay (ሽቃ)
Berihu, Head of Crime Prevention in Adit District Woreda
Leoule Woldeharyat (ልዑል ወልደሃርያት)
Muze Gebregziabher (ሙዕዝ ገብረዝግሄር)
Birehan Haile (ብርሃነ ሃይለ)
These individuals must be aware that their illegal actions are being closely monitored by human rights organizations, as well as digital media and the international community. They will be held accountable, and the consequences of their crimes will be severe. Intimidating and terrorizing civilians is an international crime, and they will face justice.
The Seriousness of These Actions
Violation of Human Rights: The targeted harassment of civilians, especially the youth, constitutes a grave violation of international human rights laws.
Breach of the Peace Agreement: These actions directly undermine the fragile peace process in post-genocide Tigray, jeopardizing the region’s recovery and stability.
Politicization of the Military: The use of military forces for political purposes threatens the impartiality of the TDF and risks destabilizing Tigray.
Urgent Appeal to the Tigray Interim Government, Civic Organizations, and Media
We call upon the Tigray Interim Government, civic organizations, Tigrayan media outlets, and international human rights bodies to urgently address and expose these illegal operations against the people of Adit District. The international community must be informed of the crimes being committed, and immediate steps must be taken to halt these unlawful activities.
The people of Tigray must not continue to suffer at the hands of those who seek to oppress and silence them. The youth and new generation must not be coerced into silence through fear and violence. We demand an immediate end to this illegal operation and stand in solidarity with the people of Adit District in their pursuit of justice and freedom from political intimidation.
This is a pivotal moment for Tigray’s recovery and future. The individuals responsible for these illegal acts will face the full force of justice.
We urge swift and decisive action to protect the rights and dignity of the people of Adit District.
